Recently we have seen Frank Lampard struggle for a consistent lineup as well as personnel. In this piece I will give three lineups (one main, one backup, and one if a complete tactical change is needed) as well as the personnel in them for this season.
Main Formation: 4-3-3
To start a lot of people would agree with this selection as in theory it brings the best out of the players and the team as a whole.
For the personnel, the pieces fall together very logically. Edouard Mendy at goalkeeper is pretty self explanatory, Reece James should have the right-back position for this season and years to come. In the middle, Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva are perfect because they compliment each other well and are Chelsea’s best and most in form centre-backs. Ben Chilwell’s early form at left-back makes sense because he is the best and most solid of our cohort.
N’golo Kante slots in at defensive midfield, although some people think he is wasted at the this position, I think at least for now he should play there at least until he gains consistent fitness. Kai Havertz has not looked as good in central midfield as he has in the number ten position – however once he gets adjusted to this position he should be as dangerous there as anywhere. It is too hard to pick between Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic as they are both amazing, and even though Mount has got the majority of the minutes Kovacic will easily get his equal share. Captain America once he is back and fit will surely be starting every week for The Blues with his incredible dribbling and moments of magic, Timo Werner is undoubtedly world class although Tammy Abraham gets the occasional game to preserve fitness. Timo Werner is the main man up front for me, and finally the “Wizard of London” Hakim Ziyech starts on the RW easily with his work rate, finesse, and chance creation.
This is the main lineup for as it brings out the best in the team and players.
Backup Lineup: 4-2-3-1
This is a solid formation however it has shown to be a bit inconsistent for Chelsea. However if its not used every game it becomes less predictable and more effective.
Formation for Tactical Change: 3-4-3
Like the 4-2-3-1 formation, the 3-4-3 has also proven to have mixed results but when it has worked it has been amazing.
When the personnel were picked for these formations I picked the one Frank would have most likely used. Chelsea still have the other options of: Azpi, Christensen, Emerson, Jorginho, RLC, Billy Gilmour, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Olivier Giroud, and possibly even more young academy players breaking into the first team.
