After a disappointing loss against Everton, the Blues are looking to pick up their form against Birmingham City in the league. The away match has a 2:30pm kickoff time on the 4th of October 2020. A guaranteed three points is crucial as Chelsea face both Arsenal and City within the next week. A win will not come easy as Birmingham City have only won one match in four (by a penalty shootout) so they will relentlessly look to pick up points – especially at home.
With Eriksson not making the squad in the last game – suspected of a slight knock, the likelihood of her starting tomorrow is very slim. Erin Cuthbert, who is four in four, could do with some rest. Jessie Fleming has yet to make her first start for the club and this match would be the perfect start for her. I personally would love to experiment with Niamh Charles at Right Wing Back, it would also benefit squad rotation. It will be interesting to see who Emma Hayes chooses for her striker position as all players are fighting for a starting position currently.
My prediction for the game is at least a 3-0 win, with anything less being very worrying. Chelsea’s performances in the last few games haven’t been convincing in terms of tactics, motivation and final third efficiency, therefore, a solid performance and a clear score line is vital.
My lineup prediction: 4-4-2 formation.
Jess Carter, Millie Bright, Maria Thorisdottir, Hannah Blundell.
Jessie Fleming, Drew Spence, Sophie Ingle, Guro Reiten.
Sam Kerr, Fran Kirby.
