The Champions League kicks off today, with Chelsea set to find out their fate in the group stage draw. The draw will start the competition’s 66th campaign, and will take place at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
When is the Draw?
This will take place at 4pm UK time.
Which Pot will Chelsea be in?
Chelsea will be in Pot 2, the highest possible pot for non-champions. They will sit in the pot alongside Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund.
What Are the Rules?
Teams are drawn into groups of four: consisting of a team from each of Pots 1 to 4. Pot 1 consists of UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League Champions, in addition to the domestic champions from the top six leagues. Pots 2-4 are ordered by team based on their UEFA Coefficient. The UEFA Coefficient effectively tracks how well clubs have performed in UEFA European competitions over the last 5 years.
No team from the same nation can be drawn together either. Teams from the same pot are also unable to be drawn together.
