The Featured Three

The first midweek fixture at Stamford Bridge this season sees the Tykes visit Frank Lampard’s men, looking to replicate the legendary FA Cup scalp of 2008. Although Gerhard Struber’s men currently find themselves 20th in the Championship, they shouldn’t be taken lightly and have proven themselves capable of digging in, particularly in recent months when they defied all odds to avoid relegation on the final day, denying Brentford promotion to the Premier League in the process. Frank Lampard will no doubt ring the changes for tomorrow’s match due to the hectic schedule: Caballero is due to come into goal and you’d expect the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Ross Barkley, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud all get minutes. There’s the tantalising prospect of debuts for Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva too meaning this shouldn’t be a drab cup affair. Realistically, Chelsea should have too much for Barnsley and you’d hope they can show firepower from open-play – besides a wonder-strike from James, Chelsea have looked a bit insipid this season, trading defensive solidity for the attacking prowess that typified last year. Keep Cauley Woodrow and Conor Chaplin quiet and Chelsea should comfortably record a victory under the floodlights.

Chelsea will win 3-0, in what is touted to be a one-sided match. With our new signings drifting into the squad, expect a dominant display by the Blues – who have got something to prove after losing 2-0 to Liverpool last week. It will be particularly exciting to see Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell making their debuts in Blue, and I think that they will mark it with a decisive victory.

As the game will be looking more like a pre-season game, new faces will come in. Obviously players lacking match fitness will be many on the pitch. Hence I don’t expect a perfect performance but, regardless, we should be able to keep a clean sheet given presence of Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell. I expect to see goals from Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley tonight.
