Lewis Baker has secured a loan to Trabzonspor in the Turkish Superlig, where he will play under former Chelsea man Eddie Newton. This will be his eighth loan away from Chelsea; whom he captained to the Under-21 Premier League title back in 2014.
Baker has been heavily involved in Chelsea’s pre-season, featuring in the friendly against Brighton before the season started. However, it was always the intention of the club to send the him out on loan for the upcoming campaign.
Lewis Baker has previously had loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Vitesse, Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Reading and Fortuna Dusseldorf. Now aged 25, it appears to be unlikely that he will be able to break into the first-team at Chelsea. He embarks on a trip to Turkey hoping to restore the confidence of both his parent club and any potential suitors.
Trabzonspor had a successful maiden campaign under Eddie Newton, finishing second to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Superlig and winning the Turkish Cup. Lewis Baker will hope to propel the club to their first league triumph since 1984.
Good luck, Lewis!
