Reece James, 20 years old, an England International, who represents Chelsea F.C. at club level. The player joined Chelsea at the age of six, making his way through the academy. Originally James was a striker, he was pushed back into midfield and eventually settled in defence. His versatility was his key attribute as he was able to feature at right-back, wing-back and in a central defensive back three. He turned professional in 2017. During that season, he captained the U-18s side, winning the FA Youth Cup and claiming the Academy Player of the Season.

In 2018, he signed a four-year contract with the club, securing his future at the club. He later joined Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2018/19 season in the Championship Division in an attempt to gain experience.

At the end of his loan campaign, he made the 2018–19 Championship Team of the Season as he played a key role in Wigan’s stay in the Championship. At Wigan he won three awards at the club’s end of season awards, receiving 96 per cent of votes from supporters winning the Fan’s Player of the Year, he was also voted Wigan’s Players’ Player of the Year and won the club’s Goal of the Season award, for his stellar performance that campaign.

In September, James made his return to Chelsea featuring in the first team, against Grimsby Town in the third round of the EFL Cup, his debut. He scored one goal and assisted two in a 7–1 win, catching the eye of the fans, having already had high ratings within the club.

Weeks later, James became Chelsea’s youngest goalscorer in the Champions League when he scored in a memorable draw with Ajax in November.

After making another impression, he signed a long-term contract extension tying down his future at Chelsea.

On 14 September 2020, James scored his first Premier League goal, later provided an assist in Chelsea’s 3–1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Internationally, Reece has been making strides.

He has been representing England at youth level from U-17 all the way to currently playing for England’s U-21. In 2017, James was in the U-20 squad and final starting 11 that defeated the Ivory Coast team to retain their Toulon Tournament title. In July 2017, James was part of the U-19 squad that won the 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

He was also a member of the U-20 squad that travelled to the 2019 Toulon Tournament. In October 2019, James was included in the U-21 squad for the first time.
