Edouard Mendy, 28 year old, French-born footballer, who plays for Senegal and Stade Rennais as a goalkeeper. Mendy started his career in the Le Havre academy (renowned for its talent production, including the likes of Pogba, Payet, Riyad Mahrez and Benjamin Mendy).

His professional career started in 2011 when he signed from CS Municipaux Le Havre by AS Cherbourg, after attracting their interest. He went on to have a four year spell there.

After being jobless for a year, Mendy was saved, signed by Marseille, unfortunately he found himself low in the pecking order, being second choice in the reserve team.

Reims took a chance on him signing him in the Summer of 2016. He was able to fully cement his place in the team as first choice goalkeeper by the time the 2017/18 season came around, playing his vital role in helping the club win promotion to Ligue 1. He attracted interest all across France, with his phenomenal performances that season, but stayed one more season to complete his 3 year stay at Reims.

Rennes, however, were the club to acquire his services. They had a vacancy in the position after selling Tomas Koubek to Bundesliga outfit Augsburg. So far he has only played one season and one match with Rennes, with Chelsea interest looming.

If Chelsea manage to acquire Mendy, he would be an immediate improvement in quality for that  position, or at least competent competition for Arrizabalaga, hopefully forcing better performances.

One quality that led to his scouting and potential recruitment is his cross-collection and aerial dominance, which Kepa struggled with this season, with Chelsea conceding 12 goals from set pieces this season (joint 4th highest 2019/2020 Season).
