Chelsea will face Barnsley at Stamford Bridge in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, after the Tykes defeated Middlesbrough at the Riverside this evening.

The tie will be played at Stamford Bridge on the 22nd/23rd September, with the tie going directly to a penalty shootout if the score is level after ninety minutes.

Barnsley are currently in the Championship, surviving on the final day last season to finish 21st in the division. The Tykes are currently managed by Austrian Head Coach Gerhard Struber, and have beaten Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough to reach the Third Round.

Chelsea have a successful record in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, progressing to the Fourth Round each time since 2010/11.
