It has been a bumper opening day of football for the Chelsea Loan Army in England. Tom takes a (virtual!) journey across the country to scout their performances at their respective clubs.

Izzy Brown: Cardiff 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday

It was a debut to remember at Sheffield Wednesday for Izzy Brown. After a productive campaign last season for Luton at attacking midfield, Brown was at it again assisting Josh Windass for the opening goal after just four minutes.

Garry Monk has previously stated that Brown is a central part of his plans to propel Sheffield Wednesday back to the upper reaches of the Championship, and was very satisfied with their performance today.

Jamal Blackman: Wycombe 0-1 Rotherham

Goalkeeper Jamal Blackman kept a clean sheet at Adams Park on his debut for Rotherham in the Championship. It was a somewhat fortuitous start for Blackman after Wycombe hit the crossbar twice in the opening stages, but he kept Wycombe at bay relatively comfortably after that.

Marc Guehi: Preston 0-1 Swansea

It was an accomplished start to the season for Marc Guehi at Deepdale. Guehi resumes at the Liberty Stadium after commencing his loan stint with Steve Cooper’s Swans in January. Taking his place at the centre of the back three, Guehi was again instrumental in keeping a clean sheet against a plucky Preston side.

20-year-old Tariq Uwakwe started his loan at League One Accrington Stanley with a debut stunner, netting from outside the box in the 85th minute. Playing in an unfamiliar wing-back role, it has been an impressive start for Uwakwe who has now scored twice in as many games in the league and Carabao Cup.

Sky Bet League Two

Jamie Cumming: Barrow 1-1 Stevenage

Jamie Cumming enjoyed a successful debut for Stevenage at newly-promoted Barrow. Stevenage reported that Cumming kept them in the game on multiple occasions amidst an onslaught from their Cumbrian opposition.

Cumming conceded a penalty in the twelfth minute, being sent the wrong way after defender Remeao Hutton fouled an attacker in the box.

Others:

  • Michy Batshuayi was an unused substitute for Crystal Palace against Southampton.
  • Teddy Sharman-Lowe was an unused substitute for Burton Albion away at Fleetwood.
