Out of favour Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi is reportedly set to move on loan to Crystal Palace, whom he played for on loan in the second half of the 2018-19 season. The 26-year-old will also sign a contract extension with The Blues to ensure he doesn’t become a free agent upon the conclusion of his loan deal.
Batshuayi has been sparingly used throughout his time in West London but with the arrival of £53 million forward Timo Werner this summer, opportunities will be even harder to come by.
The Belgian forward scored seven times in just 13 appearances during his last stint at Selhurst Park and will be relishing the chance to play week in week out.
Whilst Chelsea appear unlikely to utilise Batshuayi upon his return to the club, they are still confident they can make money back on their £33 million investment, and have hence negotiated a contract extension for the former Marseille frontman.
One downside of any potential deal would be the future of young midfielder Connor Gallagher. The 20-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to Palace, but loan restrictions permit that only one of Gallagher or Batshuayi would be able to move on loan to the club.
Gallagher does, however, have plenty of suitors and with West Brom and Leeds reportedly interested there will be no shortage of interest in the youngster.
