The moment we’ve all be waiting for. Kai Havertz has officially signed for Chelsea football club. The club released an official statement earlier confirming the arrival of the talented young german on a 5 year long contract which will see him play for the Blues until 2025. Kai Havertz is the clubs most expensive transfer of all time beating the record set for the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018, standing at a whopping €80 Million plus bonuses around € 20 million as per reports. Kai is a young versatile footballer who can play as an attacking midfielder, right winger, striker or as an advanced central midfielder on the pitch. Chelsea managed to sign the player admist heavy interest from other clubs like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid who were not able to afford the transfer due to the Pandemic. Kai Havertz adds flair and vigour to a very talented young attack as he joins a team with some familiar faces in Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic with whom he played against in the Bundesliga.
Youth Years – Leverkusen and Aachen
Kai Havertz was born in Aachen, Germany. He started playing football at the age of 4 in an amateur football club, Alemannia Mariadorf where his grandfather Richard was the chairman of back then. He was later scouted and signed by Alemannia Aachen, a local club in the second division of German Football. He spent a year at Aachen before moving to Bayer Leverkusen’s academy at the age of 11. He broke into the senior side at the age of 17 after winning the prestigious Fritz Walter medal in the year 2016. Kai was the youngest debutant in the Bundesliga and he was also Bayer Leverkusen’s youngest goal scorer ever the age of 17
Steps to Greatness
In 2018, Kai became the youngest Bundesliga player to reach 50 appearances for the club and he made 30 appearances for the club in all competitions that season. In 2019, Kai became Leverkusen’s youngest ever penalty scorer and reached 75 Bundesliga appearances at the age of 18, the second youngest player to ever do so. Every year, the player’s development was astronomical. He enjoyed his best season in the 2018-19 campaign with 17 goals and 3 assists across all competitions. Kai was awarded the ‘German Footballer of the Year’ title that season. The 2019-20 campaign saw the young star transpire into a complete attacking footballer capable of playing 4 different positions at the top level. He scored 16 goals and assisted 8 of them across all competitions for Leverkusen and was one of the best players in the Bundesliga. He completed the season for Leverkusen in the Europa league, scoring in a 2-1 loss against Inter Milan which was his final game for the club.

One of the best young players on the planet, the midfielder had a list of suitors to choose from this summer. Kai was convinced by Frank Lampard of the project at Stamford Bridge and will be managed by one of the greatest goal scoring midfielders of all time.
