Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly set to complete the loan signing of Chelsea defender Malang Sarr ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Sarr only recently joined the Blues from Nice, but the plan has always been to send the youngster out on loan. Although it is yet unknown whether this is in an attempt to increase his market value ahead of a future sale.

The 21-year-old possesses a wealth of experience at the top level of the professional game, having played for Nice consistently since he was just 17. So it is, therefore, no surprise that a host of clubs have expressed an interest in the young centre-half.

A strong passer of the ball Sarr complements Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba extremely well. Tapsoba also displays excellent composure and technique on the ball, and with the pair comfortable operating on opposite sides of the defence there appears to be room for a partnership to flourish.

Leverkusen’s attempts to sign Sarr, a potential explanation for the hold up in discussions over the Kai Havertz deal, come after the German outfit failed in their pursuit of Monaco defender Benoît Badiashile. The 19-year-old is heralded as one of the brightest defensive prospects in Europe, and whilst he has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks it is believed the youngster will stay in France this season.

Sarr knows that despite Chelsea’s defensive woes he will have plenty of competition in regards to securing a place in the first team. Both Fikayo Tomori and Trevoh Chalobah still hold out hope of playing their part in Frank Lampard’s team, whilst rumours over the arrival of Declan Rice continue to persist. Either way, Leverkusen present an interesting option for Sarr, with Die Werkself qualifying for the Europa League whilst looking to secure a top four finish in the Bundesliga.

What do you think of Leverkusen as a possible loan location for Malang Sarr? Will he succeed there, and will it prepare him for Chelsea?
