After a disappointing end to our Champions League campaign, we look back at the individuals players that suffered defeat in Munich.
Willy Cabellero- 5
Not a great start for the Argentinian shot stopper, giving away a penalty after just 8 minutes. Didn’t cover himself in glory for the second goal either and could’ve done a lot better with the shot at his near post. Despite conceding four tonight, he made some decent saves, but not a great night for the goalkeeper.
Reece James- 6
Quite a decent performance from the right back today in the circumstances. Keeping out Alphonso Davies is no easy matter as we saw in the first leg, but he did just that and stopped him many times, tho did get caught out one too many times today by other attackers and didn’t offer the usual threat going forward.
Andreas Christensen- 5
Not a very impressive evening at all for the Danish defender. Similar to games of late, Christensen was caught out a lot and often had to be saved by his other defenders. Marking was poor from corners too that led to many Bayern chances.
Kurt Zouma- 6
Definitely Chelsea’s best defender on the night, Kurt Zouma made some great tackles and blocks, and the game could’ve been a lot more without him. Although one too many mistakes cost him a 7 today, as he missed the header allowing Thomas Muller to go close, and was caught out for the third goal after a mix up with Emerson
A strange performance from the Italian today. Was a very mixed bag. Showed good glimpses going forward in the game and dribbled well through the Bayern midfield, although was caught out too many times defensively, playing Robert Lewandowski onside for the first goal, and leaving Tolisso unmarked for the third goal. Also got out jumped for the forth Bayern goal.
N’golo Kante- 5
It was a strange choice to make Kante captain for tonight’s game, despite never captaining a side before, and he wasn’t able to encourage or lead the team as a captain should. His overall performance wasn’t great and showed to Frank Lampard that he is not a vocal leader in the slightest.
Ross Barkley- 5
A poor display from the English midfielder today. His dribbling wasnt too bad throughout the game, and won a good free kick on the edge of the box. But his passing was not up to scratch today and meant that Chelsea couldn’t really form a counter attack when needed.
Matteo Kovacic- 5
The Croatian didn’t seem himself today. Chelsea’s player of the season just didn’t seem up to the task and made a massive error for the second goal after giving the ball away in the Chelsea half. Just didn’t look with it today, giving possession away too many times throughout the game.
Mason Mount- 5
Was rarely in the game today. We didn’t see a whole lot of the youngster, and when he did get the ball he didn’t do much with it. A very average performance from Mason, who again showed he is being played out of position once more. Not a whole lot to comment on, but his passing wasn’t terrible through the game.
Tammy Abraham- 6
A more positive outcome for Tammy Abraham compared to the other players in this game. Was very unlucky not to get an assist for a Callum Hudson-Odoi goal that was ruled out by VAR and got into the right position when Manuel Neuer spilled a cross by Callum Hudson-Odoi to tap into the empty net, which gave Chelsea some hope before half-time.
Callum Hudson-Odoi- 6
The first half looked like the revival for the young winger, after scoring a beautiful goal that was unfortunately ruled out by VAR by an offside in the build up. Hudson-Odoi caused Chelsea’s first goal of the game after going around Joshua Kimmich and putting a ball into the box that was spilled in the path of Tammy Abraham. Somewhat died off in the second half as Chelsea dropped off in the game, but a somewhat positive performance from Callum.
Olivier Giroud- 5
Probably the most pointless substitute that Lampard could make, but the Frenchman came on in the 80th minute. Rarely touched the ball so not a lot to comment on. Suppose he was just a presence for the blues to aim at in the latter stages of the game.
