David Ornstein has reported that Kai Havertz is on his way to Chelsea. The West Londoners are allegedly the only club willing to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s €80m asking price. Havertz has already discussed personal terms with the club, which Ornstein reports are ‘all but done’.
The Bayer Leverkusen youngster has been heavily linked with Chelsea by several sources over the last month, and this confirms that he is overwhelmingly likely to be playing at Stamford Bridge next season.
This move has also been eased by the influence of Antonio Rudiger, who is reported to have been in contact with the Leverkusen starlet over the previous days. Havertz is also in close contact with incoming Blue Timo Werner, which is likely to have carried weight.
Havertz’s performances at the BayArena had attracted interest from Europe’s top clubs, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid linked with the German international.
However, the COVID19 pandemic created significant cash-flow problems for several of European giants. This resulted in Chelsea being the only club willing and able to meet the asking price.
Chelsea are approaching this transfer window as an opportunity to spend after cashing in during the previous two windows. The COVID19 pandemic has also allowed Chelsea unfettered access to some of the brightest talents.
