Chelsea played Nottingham forest in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, a game which Chelsea cruised through comfortably as they won 2-0 on the day. The game against Nottingham Forest could have been the final game for Pedro Rodriguez.
Ex Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho signed the Spaniard in 2015 from the Spanish giants Barcelona. Pedro has had a lucrative career as a player. He won all the major trophies he’s taken part in, including the most prestigious trophies of them all, the World Cup.
Pedro had a great influence at Chelsea. He made his Chelsea debut against West Brom, he managed to score and get an assist on his debut. His first season at Chelsea was not the greatest, as he was still adapting and the Chelsea were struggling for results. His second season at Chelsea was a one to remember. He scored some spectacular goals and they were very crucial as some of them were title-winning goals. No one can forget his goals against Tottenham at the bridge. A spectacular finesse from outside the box as Lloris had to no chance to save it. He brought Chelsea level and we went on to win the game in the second half. The little Spaniard stepped up when Chelsea needed him the most. He formed a great partnership with his former teammate at Barcelona, Cesc Fàbregas. They both linked up so well that at time’s it was impossible to stop them. Another Pedro goal we cannot forget is the one against Everton at Goodison Park. It was a must-win for Chelsea to get closer to the title. Chelsea were not able to break the Everton defense down, and guess who stepped up? Pedro scored an absolute screamer to give Chelsea the lead. It was a thunderbolt of a strike. It was a goal that brought Chelsea one step closer to the title and it dented Tottenham’s hope of winning the title. Pedro played a crucial part in the 16/17 season, as hit helped Antonio Conte’s side to win the Premier League title in his first season. Pedro had made 18 contributions to goals in the league that season. Scoring 9 and assisting 9.
The following season was quite disappointing by the Spaniard’s standard. Although he played a crucial part in Chelsea’s FA Cup campaign. He scored some absolute screamers in the early rounds of the cup and Chelsea went on to win the FA Cup in the 17/18 season, as they beat Manchester United in the final.
In 2018, Maurizio Sarri took over and Pedro made most of his appearances off the bench. He managed to score 8 goals in the league and provided 2 assists. But he played a very important part in Chelsea’s success in the Europa League campaign. He scored 2 important goals against Slavia Prague which helped Chelsea get to the semi-finals of the Europa League. He even scored a vital goal in the semi-finals in the away leg against Frankfurt to bring Chelsea and it was a vital away goal. He scored in the final against the Gunners to double Chelsea’s lead. Chelsea then went on to win the Europa League.
Pedro spent 4 in a half years at the club and has played a major part. He won the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the Europa League. If he has played his final game against Nottingham Forest, we would like to thank him for his contributions to the club and he has been a great servant for the club. We wish him all the best for the future if he is sold in the January transfer window.
