It was the final game of 2019 for Chelsea as they were ready to face Arsenal. It was another trip down to North London and Chelsea had to bounce back after they suffered a embarrassing loss to Southampton at home. Arsenal recently appointed Mikel Arteta as their manager and it was his first home game in charge of the Gunners. Both teams have been struggling recently and everyone knows form goes out the window during a derby. Frank Lampard made a couple of changes to his starting 11, Kovacic was back in the side after serving his suspension. Jorginho dropped yet again and Emerson started as well for the Blues. It was a must win game for the blues in order to keep a 4 point gap between themselves and Manchester United.

The game kicked off and as always the Chelsea fans were in fine voice. In the early stages of the game, Arsenal were dominating the game, and they were rewarded with a goal as Aubameyang scored an open header from a corner to give the Gunners the lead. Emerson was caught napping and Chelsea paid the price. Lampard made a very brave substitution on the half hour mark as he brought on Jorginho for Emerson. Chelsea were getting out run in the midfield and needed Jorginho in order to stabilise their centre of the pitch. The first half came to an end and Chelsea had been poor for the majority of the it but had started to come into the game in the final minutes before HT. Chelsea had to improve massively in the second half in order to get something out of the game.

The second half kicked off and Chelsea were a lot better. Jorginho controlled that midfield and dictated play very well. David Luiz made a crucial block in order to deny Tammy Abraham from levelling the scores up. Lampard made a substitution that caught everyone by surprise, he brought on youngster Tariq Lamptey and took Tomori off. And Lamptey deserves a lot of praise as he was absolutely brilliant. Willock had a great chance to make it 2-0 to the Gunners, but his effort was just wide.

Down the other end, Chelsea were awarded a free kick. Mason Mount crossed the ball and Leno completely misjudged it and the ball fell straight into the path of Jorginho, who tapped the ball inside the back of an empty net. Chelsea were back in it after a horrible mistake from German. Arsenal started to search for a winner but they were caught out on the break and Willian cut the ball back to Tammy Abraham who spun Mustafi and managed to finish his chance as he put the ball inside the back of the net. The ball went through Leno’s legs and the scenes in the away end were absolutely mental. Chelsea came back from 1-0 down to lead at the Emirates. The full time whistle blew and Chelsea came out victorious. It was a fantastic turn around from the Blues and they ended 2019 in fine fashion.
