It’s the final week of Premier League football before we head into the international break. Frank Lampard’s Chelsea who have been flying high had the chance to make it 6 back to back wins in the league as they hosted the Eagles, Crystal Palace. A familiar face was back at the Bridge today in Gary Cahill. The reception that the Chelsea fans have for our former captain is simply outstanding and he deserved it. Lampard’s starting eleven was spot on with Reece James making his first Premier League start after being the hero in the Champions League. N’Golo Kante and Emerson also came back into the lineup.

The game kicked off and it would be the perfect week for Chelsea to head into the international break with a win. The first half was very flat, the best chance of the first half fell to Pulisic as his shot was saved by Guiata. Palace didn’t offer any threat going forward while Reece James stopped Zaha from playing his game. Chelsea defensively were solid, but going forward they missed that creative spark with Tammy not getting the best service In the first half. And that’s pretty much the story of the first half, Chelsea were not able to break a very stubborn Palace defence. Things needed to improve in the second half.

The second half was underway and Chelsea came out with a lot of energy. They finally broke the deadlock through Tammy Abraham who was one v one with the palace keeper and tucked away his chance cooly, the assist from Willian who set up Tammy beautifully. As soon as Chelsea scored, they took full control of the game. Palace yet again were very poor in the second half and Chelsea took full advantage of that. The away side were starting to come into the game during the 75th minute and were causing Chelsea problems with their set pieces. But captain America stepped up again and headed the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 to the Blues. Michy’s shot was blocked and Pulisic managed to head the ball to score his first goal at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea killed the game off and were on their way to another league win. The final whistle blew and Chelsea comfortably beat palace to make it 6 back to back wins in the league.

Press Conference

Lampard says it was a difficult decision putting Reece James in for the in-form Cesar Azpilicueta because of everything our captain offers on and off the pitch, but he feels vindicated by the youngster’s performance on what was his full Premier League debut.

‘I was delighted with our game management, and I got as much joy out of Zouma and Tomori’s performances in defence, and the midfielders shielding in front of them, as I did our attacking play.’

What’s next for Chelsea?

The Blues, just like their flag, are flying high. 6 back to back wins in the league. The youngsters are getting better week after week. There is a special thing going on in this Chelsea camp right now. We now head into the international break while Chelsea will take on Manchester City in 2 weeks time. Hopefully the Blues can make it 8 away wins in a row, but it won’t be easy as they will face champions Manchester City at the Etihad.
