It’s the international break and Chelsea finished off on a high as they beat Southampton away from home by 4 goals to 1. It’s the first time Chelsea have got back to back wins in the Premier League this season.
Today I thought that I should talk about the atmosphere around the club so far. For the last few seasons, we’ve seen an almost toxic atmosphere at Chelsea Football Club. Mourinho’s third season where Chelsea were absolutely awful, ended up with Jose getting sacked before Christmas, as Chelsea sat in 16th position in the Premier League as last season’s champions. Guus Hiddink came to Chelsea as an interim manager and finished the season in 10th position.
Conte was Chelsea’s manager for the new season and Chelsea went on to win the league. In his second season Conte fell out with board, due partially to not getting the signings he wanted. The players were demotivated and the manager lost passion for the club. Heavy defeats against Barcelona, Watford and Bournemouth were just a sign of how bad things had gotten under Conte. The final nail in the coffin for the Italian was when Chelsea lost to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge for the first time in 28 years. That’s when many fans started to turn on the Italian boss. Conte still walked away with a trophy as Chelsea beat Man United in the FA Cup final. Chelsea finished outside the top 4 and won the Fa Cup. It was a good end to a poor season. Antonio Conte was sacked and in came Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri came with a different style of football that Chelsea were not used to. It was all going very well for him until he suffered his first defeat against Spurs at Wembley. That defeat changed Chelsea’s season. Heavy defeats to Bournemouth and Man City made many Chelsea fans turn on him. Chants of Sarri out was being sung at almost every game as things went from bad to worse for the Italian. Although he won the Europa League and finished 3rd in the league, he still wouldn’t end up keeping his job.
After a lot of speculation, Frank Lampard returned to Chelsea but this time as a manager. Every single Chelsea fan was thrilled by this appointment. He came at a time where there was a transfer ban and it meant that the youth players would finally get their chance to shine for the club. Lampard’s first game did not go according to plan as Chelsea lost 4-0 to Manchester United. Even after that result you could see the fans chanting Super Frank at the end of the game to show that they were totally supportive of him.
It was a hard time for Chelsea as they struggled to get win but now things have improved as Chelsea have returned to winning ways and the feel good factor is back. Chelsea are playing exciting football, the youngsters are shining and most importantly the fans are behind the club. Lampard still needs time because he will make mistakes and we as fans understand that. Every single game we can see that Frank Lampard has the total support of the fans. Every week Chelsea improve their style of play and are becoming more efficient. Things are looking very good for the Blues and hopefully it stays like this under Frank for a very long time
