The International break is over, and we turned our attention back to the Premier League. Chelsea had a big game against the Wolves, who have not had a good start to the season. They hosted Chelsea at Molineux Stadium, hoping to get their first win of the season against the Blues.
Chelsea came into this game after a very poor result against Sheffield United at home. They scored 2 goals in the first half but managed to bottle the lead with Kurt Zouma very unfortunate to score an own in the dying minutes of the game. It was a game they’d be expected to win and the fans wanted to see a positive response from their team. Lampard changed his formation to 3-4-3 with Antonio Rudiger coming back into the side after being injured since the end of last season. Tomori started back to back games in the league whilst Marcos Alonso and Willian came into the side for their first starts.
The game kicked off and in all honesty it was quite dull for the opening 30 minutes. The game burst into life when Tomori scored an outrageous goal from 25 yards out to give Chelsea the lead. His first ever goal for the club, and what a way it was to get it. Within the next 3 minutes Tomori made a fantastic run forward and played a good pass to Mason Mount who was tripped in the box. The ref played an advantage and the ball fell to Tammy Abraham who finished his chance to make it 2-0 to the Blues. Chelsea had completely changed the game around and were in full control. Things went from bad to worse for Wolves as they conceded a 3rd goal after Marcos Alonso whipped in a brilliant cross and Tammy Abraham scored a header to seal the game before HT. The HT whistle blew and Chelsea had stunned everyone. It was truly a brilliant end to the first half.
Chelsea had to focus and not get ahead of themselves for the second half. Frank Lampard made a substitution as Zouma came on for Rudiger, who slightly injured his groin. The second half was underway and Wolves started off on the front foot. It seemed like they were starting to create a couple of problems for the Blues. Then Tammy Abraham stepped up yet again, as he dribbled past Coady and finished his chance beautifully to score his first hat-trick for the club, and make it 4-0 to the Blues. It was his 7th league goal of the season and it made him the top scorer of the league for now.
It was a very eventful game and Tammy Abraham, who scored a hat-trick, then scored an own goal, as the ball brushed of his hand to find the back of the net. Kepa really should have done better there. It was a consolation for Wolves nonetheless. Tammy Abraham then came off for Michy Batshuayi. In the 85th minute Cutrone gave the home team a bit of hope as he scored from a rebound. Kepa again was at fault and should have done better. There were 6 minutes of added time and Chelsea had a couple of chances missed by Batshuayi. In the 96th minute off the game Mason Mount scored a terrific goal to put the icing on the cake to make it 5-2 to Chelsea. The full time whistle blew and it was certainly a 5 star performance by Blues. The away fans were in loud voice chanting Super Frank as Chelsea walked away with 3 points at Molineux.
‘It’s a tough place to come because they haven’t lost here for a long time so I’m delighted!’
‘The goals were exactly the sort you want from him. He has to sustain it and keep playing at that level, then he’ll have a great chance.’Lampard on Tammy Abraham’s goalscoring form warranting an international call-up
What’s next for Chelsea?
Chelsea did themselves proud today after smashing Wolves away from home to get the 3 points. It was a 5 star performance from the Blues and it was certainly a massive response after that draw against Sheffield United. It was also a very proud moment for Tammy Abraham who scored his first hat-trick for the club who has really stepped his game up after missing that penalty against Liverpool. Hopefully his form continues. But now Chelsea turn their attention to Champions League football as they face Valencia at home on Tuesday night. Hopefully Chelsea can get 3 points in order to start their campaign on a high and make this a perfect week.
UP THE CHELS!
