Chelsea will host Leicester City on Sunday in their first home game of the season. Frank Lampard will return to Stamford Bridge but this time as a manager. It will be an emotional day for him and for the fans, who will be backing him throughout the game.
Expectations will be high from the fans after they saw a very positive response from their team against Liverpool in the Super Cup. They were very unfortunate to lose the game on penalties and will have to bounce back as soon as possible in order to get their first win of season. As for Leicester, they are a very strong team and they will cause a lot of problems for the Blues. They drew their first game of the season against Wolves. And they will be giving it their all in order to get the 3 points against Chelsea. It will be a very fascinating contest between these two teams and Chelsea have been to up for the game otherwise Lampard’s first game at the Bridge could turn into a nightmare.
Chelsea faced Leicester on the last game of the season, as the game ended 0-0. The game was quite dull and Chelsea rested a few players as they had a European final to prepare for. There were not a lot of opportunities in that game and the point was fair for the both the teams.
- Chelsea’s 0-1 home defeat to Leicester in the Premier League last season was only their second against the Foxes in 13 meetings in the competition (W7 D4 L2) and their first since September 2000.
- Leicester are looking to win consecutive away league matches against Chelsea for the first time since October 1961.
- Chelsea have won their opening home league match of the season in 14 of the last 16 seasons (W14 D1 L1), with their only defeat coming as reigning champions in 2017-18 against Burnley.
‘There were good parts of the Man United game that got lost in the result but not lost on me. Against Liverpool, we played one of the top teams in the world and really matched them.’Lampard speaking on Friday
