Chelsea won very convincingly in their last league game at the Bridge. Goals from Giroud, Hazard and Ruben Loftus Cheek sealed a 3-0 win over Brighton. Chelsea fans were very excited after seeing the lineup against Brighton, Callum Hudson Odoi was handed his first start in the Premier League and he did not fail to disappoint. Credit has to be given to Maurizio Sarri for rotating the lineup and for starting the youngsters. Players like Loftus Cheek, Andreas Christensen and Hudson Odoi were very impressive and they have certainly caught the eye of Maurizio Sarri and should be playing for the first team more often.
It was a very good result for Chelsea as they still are in the race for top 4. With Manchester United dropping points against Wolves, Chelsea are currently sitting 5th in the league table, just a point behind Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues are now ready to host West Ham United who currently sit 11th in the league table in a very crucial London Derby. West Ham United will try to set things straight as they lost 2-0 to Everton. Their fans were very critical of their teams performance against the toffees and are looking for a positive response as they take on the mighty Blues.
West ham are always motivated when they go up against the big teams, and as they take on Chelsea they will be fully motivated to get a result. As for Chelsea they certainly have to go on a winning running if they want to get in to the Champions league next season. The race for the Champions League spots gets tighter and tighter and if Chelsea fail to come out with the right mentality they will be certainly punished by West Ham.
Earlier in the season, West ham United hosted Chelsea at the London Stadium where the game ended 0-0, after Chelsea had started of the season with 5 wins out of 5 under new boss Maurizio Sarri, but their 100 percent record came to an end as they failed to beat West Ham. It was one of those days for the hammers where the ball would just not go into the back of the net. West Ham’s new signing Yarmolenko missed a golden opportunity to put the hammers in the front. Robert Snodgrass whipped in a beautiful ball and Yarmolenko failed to head the ball inside the back of the net from 6 yards out as Kepa was left exposed. West ham were happy with the point but they know it should have been three.
Looking at Chelsea’s recent form, other teams feel like they can get a result against the Blues and West Ham have proved in the past that they are not scared of facing Chelsea and their fans. The players will go out with a positive mentality that if they frustrate Chelsea they can certainly get something out of this game.
Chelsea’s last 3 meetings against the hammers have not gone according to plan. Chelsea drawing 2 games against them and losing 1. Chelsea’s last win against West Ham came in the 16/17 season under Antonio Conte as Eden Hazard and Diego Costa got the goals and sealed a 2-1 win against the hammers at the London Stadium. As this is a London derby and both the teams will be fully motivated to get the win, it will be a very fascinating encounter between these two rivals come Monday.
